May 8

Mark was home for the weekend and we decided to go check out what was shaking at the foot of the tallest building in the world (Burj Dubai), our neighbor. We haven't been over there in months. Last time we were in the area there was nothing but a huge construction zone. This time there was still a ton of construction but civilization is beginning to take hold. There are multiple living facilities being occupied. The Palace Hotel is open and parts of a small shopping center called Souk Al Bahar. There is still quite a bit of construction going on so navigating in and out is a bit tricky but the area is shaping up nicely.

The main road going out is actually pretty nice.
I zoomed in the best I could to the top of the still growing Burj.

I still don't understand how they move those cranes from one floor to the next as it rises.
Shot from the highway as we were leaving. You can see the monorail track in the foreground. I think the first phase of that is due to open in 2009. God knows the city needs it. Traffic at rush hour is worse than I-10.

Oh - and this is Mark and I's favorite news photo to date. This was in the paper and taken during the World Cup Horse Races. Absolutely priceless!!

Alright, I think I'm caught up on old news. Lets see if I can stay current now.
xxoooo
